Mission

At Uproot Ableism, we transform faith communities by dismantling barriers and placing disability theology at the heart of church life. We equip leaders, staff, and congregations to confront ableist practices, re-examine Scripture, and cultivate spaces where every individual is honored as an indispensable part of God’s creation.

Through specialized workshops, immersive training, and practical resources, we partner with ministry teams to tear down structural and cultural obstacles—building worship spaces where radical inclusion and authentic belonging are the standard.

Our story

Meet Melissa & AJ

We are a husband-and-wife team whose lived experiences with physical and invisible disabilities drive our passion for accessibility, inclusion, and healing.

  • Melissa: An ambulatory wheelchair user and experienced disability rights educator with a background consulting for schools, government, and corporate sectors. Her core calling is guiding churches to break down ableist practices and practice radical inclusion.

  • AJ: A former long-serving tactical correctional officer who lives with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). He brings vital expertise on invisible disabilities, mental health awareness, and trauma-informed support within faith communities.

Together, we offer a holistic approach to inclusion—addressing physical, cultural, and mental health barriers so churches can become places of authentic welcome for everyone.
